Dexter Season 8 Episode 4 Alternate Ending? (SPOILERS)

In the latest episode of Showtime's hit drama "Dexter," Deb's attempt to kill both Dexter and herself does not pan out, and she actually ends up saving her brother. But did producers have a different ending in mind?

According to Entertainment Weekly, there was a slightly different ending for last night's episode.

What viewers saw was Dexter driving down the road with Deb. Here he confessed that their father killed himself because he was guilty about Dexter and the life Dexter led. In a flash of anger, Deb grabbed the wheel, sending the car careening into a lake. Rescue workers pulled Deb, generally unharmed, from the lake. She then re-entered and pulled her brother to safety.

But in an unaired version, the ending played out slightly differently. Deb still pulled Dexter from the water, but she then goes an extra step and actually revives her brother by giving him CPR and mouth-to-mouth. This ending would have shown an extra depth to Deb and Dexter's relationship. If they had shown Deb reviving Dexter in such an intimate way, it would have further reinforced the fact that Deb will always forgive Dexter and really does love him.

The actress who plays Deb, Jennifer Carpenter, discussed the scene with Entertainment Weekly.

"[The crash is] sort of the last straw. It's yet one more person she cared about [who died because of Dexter]. Sometimes you can't calculate something, it's a visceral response. At her core, she loves him, at her core, she needs him ... if you're brave enough to love all-out in your life, there are people that are clearly not healthy choices for you that your body your heart you will [go] to them again and again," Carpenter said.

The image of Deb giving Dexter mouth-to-mouth would have been a powerful image of Deb's heart going out to Dexter fully, however, it seems producers chose not to air that ending scene.
