Dirk Nowitzki News: Mavs Star Returning to EuroBasket Tournament After 4-Year Absence
Former NBA MVP Dirk Nowitzki has not played for his national team Germany for four straight years, and many have been thinking that they may have seen the last of the Mavs' power forward.
However, the 36-year-old NBA star announced in a press conference in Frankfurt, Germany that he will play for his national team in this year's Eurobasket tournament, which will be held in Berlin.
"I've chosen to be in Berlin," Nowitzki said in a statement. "I've had the whole month of May and used it to gain some distance and enjoy family time. Of course, I also have consulted the matter with my wife."
Meanwhile, Mavs owner Mark Cuban showed his support for his most prized player, who will be turning 37 this June.
"I think it's great," he told ESPN on Thursday. "Games are being played in Germany. It will be a chance for his fans there to see him play."
Nowitzki last led the German national basketball team to an Olympic berth in Beijing in 2008.
The 13-time NBA All Star will be a great help for Germany, who will be hosting the Group B match-ups and will feature other teams such as Serbia, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Iceland.
