'Dragon Ball Super' news, spoilers: Fans raise concern over animation of series
The "Dragon Ball" franchise definitely has a strong fan base. Going on for decades now, it's no surprise that when "Dragon Ball Super" started, many were still eager to catch their favorite Kamehameha wave throwing character, Goku.
Although the story line has definitely been quite riveting, Forbes reports that one of the main reasons causing dissatisfaction among fans is the animation. This had already been obvious in the first few episodes. However, fans could no longer turn a blind eye to it in the fifth episode when the featured fight between Goku and Beerus showed more prominent subpar quality of animation.
After its Japanese fan base expressed their disappointment, Western fans quickly followed suit. They deem it unacceptable that such a big-budget and established anime be aired like this. Critics feel that one of the possible reasons of this outcome is the hard slave labor in the Japanese anime industry. Henry Thurlow, a traditional animator, had talked about this with Cartoon Brew, saying that the brutal labor required from animation and artists was too much, considering that some studios pay as low as $25 per week and regular 10 hours/6 days a week working time. Knowing this, it is understandable how it is more than just oversight in quality for such animation like Dragon Ball Super.

Many are hopeful that since these are just the first few episodes, producer Toei Animation will do something to improve the series now that viewers have expressed their thoughts. Yet, it can't be certain that fans will stick around, if the company will keep overlooking this critical element in an anime series.
