'Dynasty' Reboot Cast News Updates, Details: The CW casts Grant Show as Carrington Billionaire

The CW's reboot of the 1980s primetime soap opera drama "Dynasty" is confirmed to get Grant Show ("Devious Maids") as one of its leading characters, Blake Carrington (originally played by John Forsythe), the legendary oil business tycoon in the show.

The "Dynasty" series was known to follow two wealthy American families - the Carringtons and the Colbys who constantly fight over their fortunes and their children.

The producers of the series, which includes "Gossip Girl" creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage alongside Sallie Patrick ("Revenge"), claim that the reboot will be revised to fit a modernized setting.

For starters, it will incorporate racially diverse characters and storylines - most prominent is Cristal, played by Nathalie Kelley ("The Vampire Diaries"), who is a Hispanic woman that is about to marry the billionaire patriarch of the Carrington family.

Cristal's impending marriage to Blake is a source of trouble for her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Fallon, played by Elizabeth Gillies ("Victorious"), the expected heiress of the family fortune.

The series will be told from the constantly clashing points of view of these two women.

In a TVLine report, the rebooted series promises to expose corruption and betrayal among the upper 1 percent of American society.

Aside from Show, Gillies and Kelley, Sam Adegoke ("Switched at Birth") is also confirmed to star in the upcoming reboot as Jeff Colby.

The original "Dynasty" series aired on ABC from January 1981 up to May 1989. It won a Golden Globe Award for Best TV Drama Series in 1984.

At the height of the series' popularity, it also launched a successful line of merchandise which includes luxury fashion products. The show "The Colbys" was eventually created as a spin-off, though it did not experience equal success and popularity like "Dynasty" did.

After its cancellation due to declining ratings, a two-part mini-series in 1991 was aired, titled "Dynasty: The Reunion."

As for The CW's reboot of "Dynasty," no estimated air date has been announced yet.
