Epic Games to Release 100-Player, Free-to-Play 'Fortnite Battle Royale'
The all-new Battle Royale mode of "Fortnite" will be available for free when it launches this Sept. 26.
Epic Games has just announced that their upcoming 100-player Battle Royale for their "Fortnite" game will be made available for free when it is launched next week. The Battle Royale game will be highly similar to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and will include a single map to explore and the sole survivor of the game wins. However, despite the similarities, the "Fortnite" Battle Royale will feature a battle bus that will drop players into the game as opposed to PUBG's airplane.
The Battle Royale game was announced by Epic Games just last week and is said to bear the same elements as PUBG's but would also incorporate the chaotic environments featured in "Fortnite."
As for why the mode is going to be free-to-play, this is because the developers want to encourage more players to get in on Battle Royale, which is also why they will release it sooner than planned.
'We love Battle Royale games like PUBG and thought Fortnite would make a great foundation for our own version," Epic Games said. "A few months ago Epic's Unreal Tournament team began experimenting with the mode while the original Fortnite team kept updating the core game," they added.
Along with the announcement also came a 25 percent discount for the "Fortnite" Standard and Deluxe Edition Founder's Packs.
Epic Games had also made it clear that players don't need to own the original "Fortnite" game for them to play "Fortnite: Battle Royale." For the players who have already purchased the game for the purpose of being able to play the Battle Royale mode, Epic Games had said that they would be entitled to refunds. This is applicable for players who purchased "Fortnite" between Sept. 12 and Sept. 20.
"Fortnite's" 100-player Battle Royale will be available this coming Sept. 26 across Xbox One, PS4 and PC platforms.
