'Fargo' Season 2 Recap/Update: Premiere Episode Gets Rave Reviews, Shows Awesome Storytelling In Store For Season 2
Critically-acclaimed and award-winning TV series "Fargo" has returned to the small screen with its Season 2 premiere airing last October 12. According to various reports, the second season started off with a bang, having gotten rave reviews for the premiere episode, with some commentators even saying that Season 2 looks to be even better than Season 1.
One review on IGN cited that showrunner Noah Hawley was spot on when he decided that Season 2 of the anthology series should feature a different time era and a different set of characters but the same setting. "Fargo" the TV series is based on a movie of the same title, written and directed by the Coen brothers.
While Season 1 was set in 2006 in a small Minnesota town, Season 2 happens in an earlier era, the 1970s. The connection between Seasons 1 and 2 lies with one of the characters, Lou Solverson, who is the father (played by David Carradine) of Season 1's Deputy Molly Solverson, and in Season 2, is a young State Trooper Lou (played by Patrick Wilson).
Solverson, together with Sheriff Hank Larsson (played by Ted Danson) are looking into a triple homicide at a local diner and find out that it's connected to a hit-and-run murder of a member of a local crime family, the Gerhardts. The hit-and-run was perpetrated by a young couple played by Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, who tried to hide what they did.
All of this is happening with the political and social turmoil of the year 1979. Ronald Reagan is running for president of the U.S. and in fact, Solverson gets assigned as his security detail during his campaign in Fargo.
According to the review, the first episode managed to show a complex web among the series' characters without overwhelming the audience. It praised Hawley's writing, for putting together "careful plotting" as well as characters that are "carefully crafted" even with limited screen time.
"Fargo" airs every Monday on Fox.
