'Fast 8' News: Vin Diesel Unveils Film's Setting, Title, And Poster
"Fast & Furious" star Vin Diesel has given the world its first peek into the poster, setting, title, and tagline of "Fast 8," the latest installment in the popular "The Fast and the Furious" series of action/racing films.
The actor took to social media to debut a new poster for the forthcoming addition to the franchise. The image, which features the New York City skyline, also shows the movie's premiere date and the words "New Roads Ahead."
According to Diesel's Instagram photo, the eighth "Fast & Furious" film will follow the style of the seventh film's title. "Furious 7" (2015) will be followed by what fans now know will be called "Fast 8." "Furious 7" (2015), which has grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide, is the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time and has made "The Fast and the Furious" Universal's biggest franchise ever.
Despite recent reports that "Fast 8" is seeking approval to film in Cuba now that the embargo between the island nation and the U.S. has been lifted, Diesel's Instagram image has revealed that the film may be primarily set in New York City. The photo confirms Diesel's previous comment that the new film will be bringing the franchise to its original home.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on the host's "The Tonight Show" in October 2015, Diesel said, "Something that people don't know is the first movie came from a Vibe article that was about street races in New York, and the director and producer at the time reset the whole movie in LA."
"But the Vibe article that the whole franchise was started from actually originated in New York," he explained. "So, we're finally bringing it back home, baby!"
It remains to be seen whether or not Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and his crew will actually set foot in Cuba and what other international destinations they will find themselves in. "Fast 8" director F. Gary Gray is reportedly still scouting for locations for the film.
"Fast 8" hits cinemas on April 14.
