Father Who Killed His 3-Year-Old Son Receives 10-Year Prison Sentence

A man who murdered his own son in order to keep his teenage girlfriend is getting a 10-year prison sentence.

David Creato Jr., a man accused of killing his toddler son, has now been sentenced and will be serving a decade in jail. The sentencing was held last Friday, Sept. 29, in Camden, New Jersey.

According to TIME, Creato Jr. held a stoic expression while the prosecutor recounted how the 23-year-old had first reported the disappearance of his son, Brendan.

Back in October 2015, Creato Jr. had called up the authorities and reported that his son had disappeared from their home in Haddon Township saying that the 3-year-old wandered off. Hours later, Brendan's body had been found in a wooded area. He was still wearing his pajamas, but one thing that caught the authorities' eyes was how his neon green socks were still green. If he had wandered away just like how his father reported, it would be impossible for his socks to remain clean.

Afterward, Creato Jr. was charged with the killing of Brendan Creato. It is said that he killed his son because his 17-year-old girlfriend didn't like the child. She allegedly wanted him to give up custody of his son or else she'll leave him. The couple has since broken up, and she wasn't charged.

In August, Creato Jr. pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and admitted that he "recklessly caused his son's death under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life by depriving Brendan of oxygen."

However, despite this confession, David Creato Sr., the accused's father, still believes his son is innocent of the crime. His son, however, refused to give a statement after the sentencing.

"The wrong person is sitting in jail," David Creator Sr. said while promising to hire private investigators to catch the real killer.
