'Final Fantasy 14' Stormblood Details, News: Samurai and Other Classes to be Introduced by the Expansion

Square Enix's massive multiplayer online role-playing game "Final Fantasy XIV" is going to get a "Stormblood" expansion this summer, and it is confirmed that the upcoming update will introduce a new Samurai class into the mix.

Game director Naoki Yoshida made the announcement during the "Final Fantasy XIV" fanfest in Frankfurt, Germany, which was posted via Twitter, complete with a photo of him dressed up as Auron from "Final Fantasy X."

Players who wish to use the Samurai character can only do so starting at level 50, and with the "Stormblood" expansion, the required level will be bumped up into 70. In addition, the Samurai will not be associated with any other class yet since it will be a melee damage per second type that will make use of katanas during battle.

Furthermore, the keynote revealed the first ever trailer for "Stormblood," showing fans a sneak peek of the expansion's Asian-inspired setting and tons of Samurai action scenes.

The look and feel of "Stormblood" is reportedly based on Othard, one among three of "Final Fantasy XIV's" main continents. The new expansion will also add a Red Mage, which is a new type of class in-game. A new beast tribe named Kojin will also be introduced. They are a race of skilled traders that are living near the Ruby Sea and are known worshippers of Susano, Lord of the Revel.

A new residential area called Shirogane will also be added along with new dungeon areas called Yanaxia and The Azim Steppe. A new city location called Kugane will also be added, which will be known to observe a strict isolationist policy.

Game franchise composer Nobuo Uematsu also unveiled his new composition which is intended exclusively for the "Stormblood" expansion. It is titled "Revolutions" and will be interpreted by Susan Calloway.

The "Stormblood" expansion is due for release on June 20 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
