'Final Fantasy 7' News: Remake Release Date Still Unannounced
There are only a few days left before 2017 ends but Square Enix is still mum on the release date of the anticipated "Final Fantasy VII" remake.
Square Enix initially announced that the release of the high-definition remaster of "Final Fantasy VII" for PlayStation 4 would take place earlier this year. However, developers did not confirm a specific date even after several major gaming trade shows occurred in 2017.
Many were expecting to hear about the upcoming remastered game's release date during the Japan-based event Jump Festa 2018 that happened earlier this month, but the "Final Fantasy VII" remake was a no-show in the said affair. Instead, Square Enix only provided more updates and teasers for another upcoming project, "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT," that is slated for release on Jan. 30, 2018.

It is also important to note that 2017 marked the 30th anniversary of the "Final Fantasy" franchise, which sparked hope among fans that all major announcements would be made this year.
Meanwhile, the celebrations for the 30th year of "Final Fantasy's" existence seem to be extended until 2018.
In a previous interview with the EDAMAME Arcade Channel, brand manager Shinji Hashimoto confirmed that Square Enix still has a lineup of "big new titles" set to be announced in 2018. Unfortunately, he did not name any project.
Hashimoto also said in the interview: "Next year will be the 31st year, and our teams are busy working on new titles. They are all gearing up for a big year next year."
Now that the current year is almost over, "Final Fantasy" fans will have to wait for the next major events such as the 2018 Electronic Entertainment Expo in June for the possibility of learning the specific release date of the "Final Fantasy 7" remake.
In an earlier interview with Famitsu (via Siliconera), "Final Fantasy 7" remake director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed: "There won't be any new characters. As far as visual taste goes, it's going to match the visuals we've seen this time, and be more on the realistic side."
"Final Fantasy 7" was originally released in January 1997.
