Flavor Flav Restaurant 'House of Flava' Opens in Vegas

Flavor Flav, former reality star and member of the rap group Public Enemy, is making another attempt to enter the restaurant industry. Thursday marks the opening of his brand new Las Vegas restaurant, Flavor Flav's House of Flavor.

His new restaurant is a diner that will serve fried chicken and soul food. The restaurant walls are adorned with memorabilia and artifacts from Flavor Flav's career, and the rap and reality television star plans to be at the restaurant and serve the food himself, according to the Huston Chronicle.

"I'm still on the road doing shows with Public Enemy, but I'm going to be there as much as I can. When I go to the restaurant, I'm going to be working," Flavor Flav told Bloomberg Businessweek.

"You'll find me in the kitchen cooking. You'll find me frying chicken. You'll find me serving food to customers. And I'll be taking pictures and autographs at the same time," he added.

This is not the 53-year-old entertainer's first foray into the food industry. In fact, it's not his first foray into the fried chicken industry. In 2011, Flavor Flav opened a New York-style fried chicken restaurant in Clinton, Iowa called "Flav's Fried Chicken." But it didn't last. Within the first four months of opening, Flav's Fried Chicken closed its doors for good. In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Flavor said he "had to close it, man-otherwise the Board of Health would have shut it down for me."

Long before Flavor Flav found himself successful in the entertainment world, and long before he had opened any restaurants, he had aspirations to become a chef. His parents owned a Long Island Diner in New York called Soul Diner for a little over two years, and Flavor got his culinary degree in 1978.

"Back in the day, cooking definitely was the thing where you could make a lot of money. Also, it was something that I liked to do. Being that my family had the restaurant, I decided to take up a culinary arts degree so I can be one of [its] certified cooks," Flavor Flav told Businessweek.
