'Game of Thrones' Release Date, News Details: Show Actor Confirms Premiere Could Happen in July

Fans of HBO's widely popular fantasy drama "Game of Thrones" are patiently waiting for the show's seventh season to air anytime this year, but an exact release date has yet to be revealed.

For several seasons, the show was always set to premiere its new season around April. For the upcoming installment, however, its premiere was already expected to be delayed as reported last year.

An actor from the show, Liam Cunningham, reveals that season 7 might air by July. He plays Davos Seaworth, the once loyal adviser of the unfortunate Stannis Baratheon but who now works for Jon Snow.

In an interview with The Independent, Cunningham reveals that he had been "disappointing various people around the world" because he thought the new season would come out in April, but says, "It's July now, I think." He adds, "The final season starts again as far as I know in September."

Although some might say the actor's revelation is somewhat confusing, he did indicate that the upcoming season will only have seven episodes, and that something special is being prepared for the premiere event this year.

In addition, a production teaser video was presented, featuring Brienne of Tarth's sword named Oathkeeper. The video is an assurance for fans that production for season 7 is ramping up.

"Game of Thrones" is set to end by its eighth season, and Cunningham previously revealed that production for the final season will likely start by September this year.

Despite the show's end, a prequel is reportedly being considered by HBO and the show's producers, but no concrete plans or storylines have been finalized yet.

In previous news from the Entertainment Weekly, Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen (also known as the Mother of Dragons) in the series, revealed last month that filming for season 7 was almost done.

In an Instagram video posted last Feb. 3, she said that the show is just a day away from wrapping up, assuring fans that the upcoming season will be a "mind blower."

HBO's "Game of Thrones" is based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series, "A Song of Ice and Fire."
