'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Spoilers, Plot News: Surprises for Fans and Readers

The upcoming season of "Game of Thrones" is expected to surprise many fans of the series, as well as readers of the George R. R. Martin novels.

Unlike the previous seasons of the HBO series "Game of Thrones," season 6 will be released before the source material, which is the sixth installment in Martin's novel series titled "The Winds of Winter."

With that, readers and fans will have to watch the upcoming season in order to find out first about what will happen to their favorite characters. While the novel "The Winds of Winter" has yet to be released, Martin shared a photo of the book's cover on his Live Journal, where he posted, "Here it is, the first of January. The book is not done, not delivered. No words can change that. I tried, I promise you. I failed. I blew the Halloween deadline, and I've now blown the end of the year deadline. And that almost certainly means that no, THE WINDS OF WINTER will not be published before the sixth season of GAME OF THRONES premieres in April."

Meanwhile, many spoilers for the series have already been circulating the web. One of the most interesting news was regarding the return of Bran Stark, played by Isaac Hempstead Wright. His character did not even make a single appearance during the fifth season of the series, which had fans wondering about what his character was up to.

Recent reports showed that Bran will be playing a big part in the episodes to come, now that he is more in touch with his powers. It was revealed that his character will be the gateway for fans to learn more about the past of the Stark family.

With that, there are speculations that the season will touch upon the parentage of Jon Snow, who is currently known as Ned Stark's bastard. However, it was revealed that Jon Snow may actually be the rightful heir to the throne. With a chance to look into the past, fans should expect to gain answers when the series returns.

"Game of Thrones" season 6 is slated to premiere this April 2016.
