'Game of Thrones' Season 7: Showdown Between Stark, Lannister, Targaryen

HBO recently released a new teaser for the upcoming seventh season of its popular high fantasy series "Game of Thrones."

The footage is one minute and 30 seconds long and showcases all the contenders for the Iron Throne taking their respective seats of power as they prepare for a large war in Westeros.

In the Red Keep, Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) has declared herself the new reigning leader of Westeros. Queen Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), meanwhile, is seen walking the halls of a new setting and taking a seat in her own throne room. In the North, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) reluctantly takes his place at the Great Hall of Winterfell as the new Lord of the North.

The clip ends with an ominous appearance of the Night King, the greatest threat the whole of Westeros has ever seen.

At the end of "Game of Thrones" season 6, Daenerys' dragons and her colossal army of warriors were already headed towards Westeros. Meanwhile, Cersei had appointed herself as "Queen Cersei First of Her Name" and the new reigning monarch of Westeros after the tragic death of all her children.

In the North, Jon had a lot on his plate with the Night King's army heading south, threatening an imminent battle that could end human lives in Winterfell and all of Westeros.

Though fans are still in the dark as to what's to come in season 7, cast member Maisie Williams, who portrays Arya Stark, teased on Twitter last year that "nothing will prepare you for this."

"Game of Thrones" season 7 is executive produced by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield, with Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis, George R.R. Martin and Bryan Cogman serving as co-executive producers. The upcoming season of the show is produced by Chris Newman, Greg Spence and Lisa McAtackney.

The upcoming seventh and penultimate season of "Game of Thrones" will premiere on Sunday, July 16, on HBO.
