'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Updates: Kristofer Hivju Believes Tormund May Still be Alive

While many believe that fan-favorite "Game of Thrones" character Tormund has died in the season 7 finale episode of the globally popular and critically acclaimed HBO original series, the actor who breathes life to the character, Kristofer Hivju, suspects otherwise.

Just minutes before "Game of Thrones" season 7 came to an end, fans were treated to one of the most interesting scenes the series ever featured: The Night King riding his Wight Dragon, which was originally Daenery's (Emilia Clarke) beloved Viserion. With the Wight dragon delivering devastating icy breaths against the 800-year-old wall, fans have since believed that Tormund has died as he was last seen on top of it along with Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) when the structure collapsed.

While it's not hard to imagine that Tormund indeed perished, Hivju has recently revealed in an interview that he thinks otherwise. For the actor, there may still be a possibility for his character to return in "Game of Thrones" season 8.

"I don't know. I honestly don't know. Somehow, I don't believe it. Somehow, it looks like it's a fall you can't survive. But people have asked me if characters like Beric and Tormund die, why wouldn't they show that," Hivju said in an interview.

However, part of Hivju believes that his character may be dead, after all. While the reason he still believes that his character is still alive because his death was not shown in the season 7 finale episode, he suspects that the production opted not to show it yet because it would have been devastating for the fans if the series had confirmed his character's death right there and then.

"But still, I don't know! He may be dead," Hivju said.

While it remains unclear whether Tormund really died or survived, Hivju said that he would be disappointed with how his character exited from the series in the event that he really perished.

According to Hivju, while his character had thought several times that he would die, dying because of a zombie dragon carrying the Night King is a horrible way to end his stint on "Game of Thrones."

Did Tormund really survive the season 7 finale events? If yes, how did he survive the fall?

Unfortunately, fans can only speculate for now and wait until "Game of Thrones" season 8 begins airing, presumably in 2019.
