George Clooney Gushes About Amal Alamuddin Ahead of Wedding; 'I Can't Wait to be Your Husband'
George Clooney recently gushed about his bride-to-be, Amal Alamuddin, and revealed that he "can't wait" to marry her.
The Hollywood actor, 53, accepted an humanitarian award at a Celebrity Fight Night charity gala in Italy last week and during his speech he honored Alamuddin, 36. The couple got engaged in April and are set to wed in coming weeks.
"I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places," Clooney told the crowd. "I would just like to say to my bride-to-be Amal that I love you very much and I can't wait to be your husband."
Celebrity Fight Night was held in support of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
Alamuddin, who is a British human rights lawyer, was delighted upon hearing Clooney's touching speech.
The couple first stepped out together publicly during an outing in London in October last year, three months after Clooney's split from former pro-wrestler Stacy Keibler. They have since enjoyed a number of globe-trotting jaunts including a trip to Tanzania and New York City.
"She seemed so touched and overwhelmed and at that moment they looked right at each other and it was as if there was no one else in the room," a source told E! News.
The pair has not publicly confirmed their wedding date however reports claim they have scheduled a Sept. 20 wedding.
Alamuddin is currently representing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and is an adviser to Kofi Annan, the special envoy to Syria. Clooney recently boasted about his accomplished wife-to-be.
"I'm marrying up," Clooney told Variety magazine.
Clooney's mother Nina, 74, previously described Alamuddin as having a nice blend of "brains and beauty."
"We weren't at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn't be happier for them," Nina said. "On an intellectual level, they are equals. That is very important to him. Amal's world couldn't be more different from the Hollywood lifestyle," she explained.
