George R.R. Martin Excuses For "The Winds of Winter" Delay

Author and writer George R.R. Martin is under a lot of pressure for the release of his next novel, "The Winds of Winter," especially since the next season of the popular medieval fantasy series "Game of Thrones" is about to kick off. Fans of the novel series "A Song of Fire and Ice" as well as that of "Game of Thrones" have been eagerly waiting for the next installment in the series.

The author, according to a report in Tech Times, has pointed the blame to "distractions" – because of the popularity of "Game of Thrones" and his own, as he has been involved in so many things that has kept him from focusing on the novel.

Martin mentioned several reasons for the delay when he sat down for an interview during a film festival at his independent movie theater in Santa Fe. He said that most of what he has done so far, especially those that have become very popular and in demand, often "creates problems" because it "creates distraction."

In the case of "A Song of Fire and Ice" and "Game of Thrones," he had so many commitments for interviews and public appearances because of their popularity. His numerous travel plans take him away from writing, adding that he is not able to write when on the road.

He can only do his writing at home, where he cannot be bothered by anybody. In order to achieve this, he says he has "assistants and minions whose main job is to make sure don't bother him."

According to another report in The Independent, Martin also said that he may end up doing other things just because they are more fun than writing. He said, "I found out long ago that when you look at the overall task, the cathedral you have to build, it looks so daunting that you just give up and sit down and play a video game."

Despite his promise that the novel will be out before the start of Season Six of "Game of Thrones," the report said that it may not likely happen. Fans will need to wait it out some more.
