Germany vs Portugal: Watch Online World Cup 2014 Football
Germany will play Portugal on Monday in a mouthwatering tie from the World Cup 2014 tournament in Brazil. This clash will open up Group G, labeled by many to be the Group of Death at Brazil 2014. The game will kick off at 12 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the ESPN network, or online (details below).
Germany will be favorites to win this game in many people's eyes. They have a World Cup pedigree that most nations couldn't even dream of. Even when they've had squads that on paper are not anywhere near one of the best in the tournament they've found ways to progress to the latter stages of the World Cup. However, this year they have an extremely good team that is considered among the most deadly at this year's World Cup.
Germany have won 12 of their 17 opening games at World Cups, and have lost only once – that loss coming against Algeria in 1982 and even then Germany stormed back to make the final that year!
Germany coach Joachim Loew has boasted that his game plan will be to play high-tempo football right from the start and wear down the Portuguese team. The weather in Salvador is scheduled to be hot and humid, and teams that are given the run around will likely wilt in the final third of the game and potentially leave themselves open later on.
However, Loew has upmost respect for Portugal and has called them a "world champion in counterattacking."
These two teams have played each other a number of times in recent years, but Germany have come out on top each time; in the 2006 World Cup Germany won 3-1, at Euro 2008 Germany won 3-2, and in Euro 2012 Germany again claimed the win 1-0.
Talking about Portugal's World Player of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo, Loew has said, "You can't shut him down completely, he is a player who scores 50 goals a season. But we've watched a lot of videos, we know his running patterns, how he likes to lurk behind defenders. It has to be a team effort against him."
Today's game between Germany and Portugal will kick off at 12 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the ESPN network. The game can also be watched online through live stream by clicking here.
