'Gilmore Girls' Revival News: Netflix Series Still Possible Despite Amazon Deal
A second revival of "Gilmore Girls" is still possible even though series creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino have signed under Amazon.
Amy and Daniel have joined Amazon in a multiple-year overall deal, where the two will be creating new shows for the streaming site, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.
Because of the Palladinos' contract with Amazon, there are speculations that a second revival of "Gilmore Girls" is far from possible at the moment, especially because "A Year in the Life" is signed under Netflix.
However, sources have confirmed to TVLine that there's a clause in the Palladinos' contract with Amazon that allows them to work on "Gilmore Girls" with Netflix.
According to the sources, the clause was intentionally included in their contract just in case Amy and Dan decide to create a continuation to "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" on Netflix.
Although the out clause doesn't really determine whether the Palladinos will follow through with another "Gilmore Girls" revival, it's one step closer to the possibility that they do, as long as all the actors involved in the series will easily return.
Netflix will give their full support if the Palladinos decided to continue "Gilmore Girls," as Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos previously confirmed in an interview.
"We hope [there are more installments]. We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped. ... The worst thing is to wait a couple of years for your favorite show to come back and for it to disappoint you, but they sure delivered and people were really excited about more," explained Sarandos.
For now, the Palladinos' main project with Amazon is "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," featuring Rachel Brosnahan as the titular character, a Jewish housewife who decides to become a comedian after her marriage falls apart.
A new revival of "Gilmore Girls" is yet to be confirmed.
