The writer-actor previously explained that the upcoming season of "Girls" will be the last of the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dunham stated that they felt the end of the series approaching. She said, "We were always conscious, especially because the show has been at times such a lightning rod, of overstaying our welcome. We've been very blessed to have the experience of people continuing to engage in the show in a really kind of rabid way after four — heading into five — years. We wanted to make sure we kept the momentum alive and didn't allow it to soften over time."

After six years, Dunham also took the time to appreciate her fellow "Girls" cast members and executives for their support during a difficult time in her life. She also previously commended her cast members for their success in outside projects. One of the "Girls" stars, Adam Driver, played a major role in the previously released "Star Wars" installment. He took on the role of the movie's villain, Kylo Ren.

With that, fans can expect the stars of "Girls" to explore different projects when the series ends.

"Girls" season 6 will premiere on HBO this Feb. 21.
