Golden State Warriors Guard Stephen Curry to Miss Christmas Day Matchup Against the Cavs
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been making good progress in his recovery from a sprained right ankle and he should be back in no time. Unfortunately, he's unlikely to suit up for the team when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas Day.
On Tuesday, the Warriors announced that Curry was scheduled to be reevaluated in a week's time. The timeline means he's not going to be available for the marquee matchup against the Cavaliers.
That's a letdown for the fans.
The Warriors have continued to rack up wins (10 straight) while Curry is sidelined, though, so they should be able to hold their own against Cleveland.
Apparently, Golden State held a team meeting after Curry got hurt on Dec. 4, and they have been playing really well on defense since then.
"Last year, KD went out for 18 games and we were No. 1 in the league in defense and it was because we had a sense of fear that, oh man, we've got to play otherwise we're in some trouble," Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said, via the Mercury News.
"That meeting was about the exact same thing — Let's be the best defensive team in the league from now until Steph gets back," he continued.
"You can tell we're a little disjointed, but I'm really proud of those guys," he added.
Aside from Curry, a number of Warrior players are also battling a variety of ailments.
All-Star forward Draymond Green has been dealing with a lingering shoulder injury for the past couple of weeks, but he has been inching closer to a return. Center Zaza Pachulia has been missed time due to left shoulder soreness, while guard Shaun Livingston is hampered by a sore right knee.
Warriors fans are hoping to see all three on the floor on Monday.
