Google Nexus 7 Gets Android 4.4.4 Update

While the world is abuzz with the release of Apple's iOS 8 and Google's impending release of the Android L (Android 5.0), the Android Kitkat 4.4.4 is still making its rounds across the Android compatible phones. The Google Nexus 7 is now getting the update via downloading and installation and is a small update, only 2.4MB.

This brings the tablet from Android 4.4.3 to Android 4.4.4 for the remaining much needed bug fixes from Android 4.4.2. The update comes in the form of a stock image and it enables users to install the update even if users have installed tons of custom ROMS on their devices.

As it stands, the 4.4.4 update will be the last Android update to grace Android phones this year as Google is already preparing for the release of their next operating system, the Android L (Android 5.0) – where it is currently given the dessert name Lemon Meringue Pie.

While the factory image is not as simple as the OTA installation, users who aren't familiar with the former and binaries should probably wait for an available OTA update. Google hasn't announced when it will come but it usually comes hours or days after the initial release of the factory image. The worst time it could arrive would be a few weeks after the initial release.

Surely, the 4.4.4 update brings the bug fixes that's needed to fix issues with the 4.4.2 update like security issues and battery drain problems. While the Android L is nearing release, it still isn't clear which devices will be getting it. Surely, Google's own devices will get the update but there's no certainty.
