'Gotham' Season 4 Episode 5 Spoilers: Butch to Return as Solomon Grundy
While "Gotham'' season 4 will feature a lot of its long-time characters into becoming more of their respective comic book versions, it can't be denied that one of the most looked-forward-to transitions is that of Butch/Cyrus Gold (Drew Powell), who is expected to become the undead villain, Solomon Grundy.
Things are getting more exciting for "Gotham" season 4 as its story is slowly transitioning the characters into their more familiar comic book counterparts. While the show still features a teenage Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), the character is slowly transitioning into the Dark Knight that he is meant to be as the character now dons a prototype of the iconic bat suit.
However, it has been recently revealed that "Gotham" will finally make way for the arrival of Solomon Grundy to the series soon. While "Gotham" fans were initially clueless on what Butch's relevance to the series was since he had been an original cast member since "Gotham'' debuted, the previous season finally gave them a clear understanding of where the character was heading into.
To recall, the previous season of "Gotham" featured Butch in a love and power triangle involving himself, Tabitha (Jessica Lucas), and Barbara Kean (Erin Richards). While Barbara shot him in the head in the season 3 finale of the series because of their escalating conflict, it did not mean that Butch was making his exit from the series as he was seen to be in a hospital where his real name is revealed: Cyrus Gold. Avid DC comic book fans know too well that Cyrus Gold is the real name of Solomon Grundy.
While it is already certain that Butch will become Solomon Grundy, it remains unclear how he will be resurrected from the dead, and whether the villain will be able to retain his intellect or will be a simpleton, just like in his comic book and animated series incarnations. However, as "Gotham" co-executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt has revealed in a recent interview that Solomon Grundy will make his debut in "Gotham" season 4 episode 5, it's just a matter of time before these questions will be answered.
"Gotham" season 4 airs on FOX on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. EDT.
