'Grey's Anatomy' Season 14 Spoilers: Meredith Has No Immediate Replacement for Nathan

Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will not have a new love to replace Nathan (Martin Henderson) in the upcoming second half of the current season of "Grey's Anatomy."

New spoilers reveal that the promised love interest for Meredith will not push through in season 14B. Instead of the sexy male doctor from overseas who will sweep her off her feet, it has been announced that the showrunners are now looking for a forty-something female to play the new role. The gender change is a huge hint that Mer will remain loveless after losing Nathan. This is a sad news to the fans, but it is infinitely better than seeing her become the other woman in his relationship with Owen's (Kevin McKidd) sister, Megan (Abigail Spencer).

Meanwhile, the second half is also expected to reveal what will happen to Jo (Camille Luddington) now that her husband Paul (Mathew Morrison) has found her. Speculations are rife that she will end up leaving Seattle Grace Hospital for good to escape his abusive ways. Previously, it was revealed that Jo was a battered wife and that when she left her husband, she changed her name to prevent him from finding her. The last minutes of the midseason finale showed Paul making a surprise appearance while Jo was busy attending to the patients.

"Jalex" fans are also worried about her relationship with Alex (Justin Chambers). If Jo leaves Seattle Grace, the chances of reuniting with her boyfriend has become close to impossible. She has made no secret of the fact that she wants to sort her life first before contemplating marriage with him. Jo will need to divorce Paul first, something that he will not allow considering his obsession with her. Paul may even cause problems for Alex in the hospital. This will come at a bad time since he is already in bad terms with the board of directors.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 14 will return on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
