'Grey's Anatomy' Spinoff News: Firefighter Series Taps Alberto Frezza as Series Regular
Alberto Frezza is officially on board the upcoming "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff.
The "Dead of Summer" star has landed a regular role for the new series, according to reports. The actor will play Ryan, a police officer. Further details about his character are still being kept under wraps. Fans may have to wait a while before they find out what kind of character Frezza's Ryan will be.
Best known for his role as Deputy Garrett Sykes in the Freeform horror drama "Dead of Summer," Frezza has appeared in several TV programs throughout his career. He recently appeared on CBS' "Criminal Minds" as a guest star. His previous films include "Battle Force" and "Angels Fall in Love."
Frezza joins the list of previously announced cast members including Jay Hayden ("The Catch"), Miguel Sandoval ("Dallas"), Okieriete Onaodowan ("Broadway's Hamilton"), Danielle Savre ("Too Close to Home"), Barrett Doss ("Marvel's Iron Fist"), Grey Damon ("Aquarius") and Jaina Lee Ortiz ("Rosewood"). Also part of the lineup is Jason George, who will be leaving the flagship drama to star in the firefighter spinoff.
Hailing from "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland, the 10-episode drama follows a group of heroic firefighters in Seattle and their personal lives. Characters ranging from a new recruit to an experienced captain will deal with all types of challenges at the firehouse.
Emmy-winning director Paris Barclay has been tapped as the show's producing director and executive producer. The still untitled program will debut as a backdoor pilot during the latest season of "Grey's Anatomy."
ABC has yet to announce a premiere date for the spinoff, but fans can check out new "Grey's Anatomy" episodes that air Thursday nights at 8 p.m. EDT. Plenty of plot twists have already played out since season 14 kicked off. The rest of the installment is shaping up to bring more revelations, specially now that the show's milestone 300th episode is coming up.
