'GTA 5 Online' News: Developers 'Confirm' Discovered 'Red Dead Redemption 2' Crossover Mission
Shortly after data miners found files in "GTA 5 Online's" codes that suggest the existence of a crossover mission with "Red Dead Redemption 2," Rockstar Games has reportedly confirmed the news through an in-game message.
The release of "GTA 5 Online's" newest free update, "The Doomsday Heist," paved the way for data miners to find pieces of evidence that there was an upcoming crossover mission between the said game and "Red Dead Redemption 2."
According to reports, data miners from Team Guru found a set of unreleased vehicles in the codes of "The Doomsday Heist." In a social media post from the Red Dead Network Twitter page, it was revealed: "#RDR2 'treasure hunt' discovered in the GTA Online game files! We believe hints in-game are going to lead us to this chest and a new double-action revolver, which comes with its own challenge to unlock an exclusive RDR2 reward."
That a crossover content was coming up was also hinted at by other hidden game items such as a gun revolver similar to those found in the old west-themed game "Red Dead Redemption."
Later on, the same group found more unreleased game contents, which included a small treasure chest and a pinned note with a handwritten message that said: "Treasure tore our family apart. It ain't here no more. I moved it. You f****** will never find it."
Notably, the treasure chest also bore a logo of the Boles Overland Stagecoach Co., a place that many "Red Dead Redemption" players found in the game.
Reports added the mined hidden data revealed that one of the possible objectives was to find a "gold-plated-six-shooter." These hidden contents apparently gave away an imminent launch of a treasure hunting event in "GTA 5 Online."
About a day after the unreleased game contents were released, GameSpot reported that Rockstar Games might have confirmed the rumored crossover mission through an in-game message sent to "GTA 5 Online" players. The video gaming website added that the said in-game message hinted at a mission about the "rumors of a lost relic from the frontier."
