'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Spoilers, Rumors: Three New Guardians To Join Team?

When news that Marvel Studios was developing a "Guardians of the Galaxy" film came out, many of those who were familiar with the comic book characters were skeptical. Just how would Marvel translate the misadventures of a rag-tag team of intergalactic misfits into the big screen? But these skeptics' misgivings proved baseless when "Guardians of the Galaxy" came out in 2014 and became an instant blockbuster success, even out-earning Marvel's other box office hit that year, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

As such, it came as no surprise when it was announced that a sequel, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," would be released in 2017 and will be helmed by "Guardians" director James Gunn. Since the announcement, so many rumors and potential spoilers about the sequel have cropped up, driving Gunn to announce in late 2015 that he would no longer comment on spoilers about the film.

But the rumor mill just can't be stopped. In fact, one of the recent "Guardians" spoiler involves a major detail about the forthcoming film: three new team members will join the Guardians of the Galaxy.

According to a report from Geek.com, two of the new Guardians are characters from the original "Guardians" film and one is a newcomer. According to the report, joining Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel) are Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillian), and Mantis (to be played, rumors say, by Canadian actress Pom Klementieff).

In "Guardians of the Galaxy," Yondu was the Ravager who kidnapped Peter Quill as a child and raised him amongst the other Ravagers. Nebula, a cyborg, was the adopted daughter of the villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) and Gamora's sister. Meanwhile, in the Marvel comics, Mantis is a superhero with martial arts skills, telepathic power, empathic ability, and superhuman strength. She can also control vegetation, which may or may not be a good thing for Groot.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
