'Halloween' Sequel News: Jamie Lee Curtis Set to Return as Laurie Strode

Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role of Laurie Strode on the final sequel to the "Halloween" franchise.

Curtis is returning as Laurie after 16 years to have one last confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked man — and her brother — who has been determined to kill her since his killing spree in the first "Halloween" film, Variety confirmed.

The sequel will be under Universal Pictures and will be produced by Trancas International Films, Blumhouse Productions, and Miramax. Jason Blum — known for "Get Out," "Split," "The Purge" and "Paranormal Activity" franchises — will executive produce the film with John Carpenter, who will also be a creative consultant.

Curtis also confirmed her return by sharing a photo on Instagram of her with the masked murderer behind her. It was published with the caption, "Same porch. Same clothes. Same issues. 40 years later. Headed back to Haddonfield one last time for Halloween."

Based on Curtis' announcement, this sequel will be a continuation of the first installment of the "Halloween" franchise that was released in 1978, which was directed and written by Carpenter with Debra Hill as his co-writer.

Followers of the "Halloween" franchise are probably wondering how will Curtis return as Laurie when she was killed off in "Halloween: Resurrection" that was released in 2002.

Screenrant notes that similar to the other "Halloween" films, the final sequel will disregard all the events that took place in the previous installments, similar to how "Halloween H20: 20 Years Later" disregarded what happened in "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers," "Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers," and "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers."

Carpenter confirmed that he will join the creation of the final "Halloween" sequel in May 2016, and he said, "38 years after the original 'Halloween,' I'm going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all."

The final "Halloween" sequel is slated to premiere on Oct. 19, 2018.
