'Halo 5: Guardians' Sets Guinness Record for Biggest Halo Launch

"Halo 5: Guardians" has set a world record for the biggest "Halo" launch in history and for selling the most Xbox One exclusive bundle.

In the first week alone, "Halo 5: Guardians" and the "Halo 5" Xbox One bundle had a combined gross sales of $400 million worldwide. Overall, "Halo" has earned more than $5 billion already, according to Hardcore Gamer (HG).

From the moment it was launched, "Halo 5: Guardians" had a recorded gameplay of more than 21 million hours. The "Halo 5" multiplayer, on the other hand, had a total logged gameplay of 9 million hours, with 12 million hours played in campaign mode, the Tamworth Herald reports.

In addition, "Halo 5: Guardians" was able to clinch a Guinness World Record for being the most watched video game launch broadcast. At that time, there were more than 330,000 unique streams of the launch broadcast, with a total of 5.5 million views last week, the report details.

In the United Kingdom, "Halo 5: Guardians" eclipsed the first day box office earnings of the latest James Bond movie "Spectre." The game earned $11.69 million (£7.7 million) in gross revenue for its first day versus the film's $9.56 million (£6.3 million), the report relays.

For Microsoft, the high streaming numbers played a major role for spiking the digital sales of "Halo 5." Because of the event, the game took the top spot among the best-selling digital game in the Xbox Store during its first week of sales.

In a statement, Xbox head Phil Spencer said the success of "Halo 5: Guardians" reflects the creative work that the entire 343 Industries team has done to bring the game to Xbox One. He added that the game itself embodies the opportunities that have opened up for Xbox One, especially now that "Halo 5" has become the greatest game in the history of Xbox.

"Halo 5: Guardians" is now available for Xbox One.
