'Hardcore Henry:' 90-Minute Movie Shot Almost Entirely with GoPro
A lot of people have tried capturing up to 15 minutes using a GoPro camera as it is more convenient than bigger cameras around, but in the case of "Hardcore Henry," the movie was shot entirely using the digital cam, save for a few scenes.
The movie is the first of its kind as Russian director Ilya Naishuller shot the movie with the purpose of delivering a story from the point of view of Henry, the protagonist. According to CNET, Naishuller had to attach the GoPro to a rig to take the shots needed for the film that runs for about 90 minutes.
GoPro teamed up with Naishuller to create the epic movie. The company's latest stint is not only beneficial to Naishuller's team but also to the company's overall standing in terms of usability in the film-making realm.
When the movie made its premiere on Sunday at the South By Southwest film, tech, and music festival in Austin, Texas. Naishuller graced the event with the famed rig he used to shoot the movie. During his Q&A sesson after the movie's screening, the director shared how he felt about being the first to come up with a point-of-view film in the action genre.
"The pleasure of knowing you're getting the first of this stuff, it's a genuine high," he said.
The movie looks into Henry's (Sharlto Copley) life as he enters the underground territory of Moscow, Russia. He needs to save his wife from an evil warlord and in his journey, viewers will see a rather bloody trail. What made Henry's journey more interesting for those who have seen it his transformation from the dead into a mechanical super-soldier.
According to The News Minute, the movie won the People's Choice Award. Aside from the award, it has also received positive reviews from experts who have seen nothing of its kind in the history of film making.
