Henry Cavill News: 'Man of Steel' Believes 'Wonder Woman' Saved the DCEU

While Henry Cavill is Superman himself in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), he has admitted that it was "Wonder Woman" which helped the brand to gear towards the right direction.

Cavill's "Man of Steel" released in 2013 was the first Warner Bros. movie under the DCEU brand. While the movie made money, some critics could not help but point out that it was too serious and lacking the feel-good substance that superhero movies should have.

While many DC fans hoped that the next DCEU movies would be less dark and serious, things only got worse when the brand's second movie released last year, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," was not only criticized for having the same issues with "Man of Steel" but for having a disjointed storyline, too.

With another DCEU movie released last year, "Suicide Squad," failing to impress fans and critics alike, it was but understandable for many to expect that the brand was headed for a failure. However, nobody saw it coming that the DCEU would find hope in a woman, "Wonder Woman" that is.

As "Wonder Woman" was not only a commercial but a critical success, Cavill opined in a recent interview that it was summer 2017's biggest blockbuster that saved the DCEU. With the movie getting the nod of fans and critics alike, Cavill believes that it has helped the DCEU to finally steer towards the right direction.

"We can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told. It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. 'Wonder Woman' was the first step in the right direction," Cavill said in a recent interview.

Meanwhile, "Justice League" hits the theaters this November 17. While it remains unclear whether rumors claiming that the upcoming movie is better than "Wonder Woman" are true, fans can only hope that the upcoming DCEU movies have really learned from the Gal Gadot-blockbuster.
