Highway Chicken Spill: 37,000 Pounds of Chicken Close Highway After Crash

There has been a mass highway chicken spill on US Route 422 in Pennsylvania, according to reports on Thursday.

An accident reportedly caused 37,000 pounds of processed chicken to be scattered all over a highway after a tractor trailer was wrecked. The incident took place on US Route 422 in Pennsylvania and caused the eastbound lanes in Lawrence County to be closed down, according to Salon.

It has already been reported that the masses of chicken have been cleared from the road and that traffic is beginning to move again, according to police n New Castle.

A crash occurred just before 5 a.m. and resulted in a massive poultry spill across the highway and the road was subsequently shut down. The road remained close for about three hours as the chicken was removed, and the highway was later reopened to get traffic moving.

Police have not released details of the incident and the driver of the truck carrying the 37,000 pounds of chicken has not been publicly identified. It is also not confirmed whether anyone was seriously injured in the smash up, nor what caused the crash in the first place.

The incident took place about 35 miles north of Pittsburgh, near McConnells Mill State Park, according to the Inquisitr.

The chicken is unlikely to be recovered and may be destroyed following the accident.
