'Homeland' Season 7 News: 'House of Cards' Actress Sandrine Holt Lands Mystery Role

"Homeland" has added a new cast member for its upcoming season 7.

Sandrine Holt is officially on board the Showtime drama, according to reports. The "House of Cards" alum will appear in at least two episodes, with an option for more in the future. Unfotunately, the network is keeping all details about her character under wraps. Insiders revealed that her story arc is important to the season 7 storyline.

Aside from Holt, former guest star Lesli Margherita has also been tapped to reappear next season. Margherita initially appeared in one episode last season as Sharon, a loyal ally to right-wing media figure Brett (Jake Weber).

Holt and Margherita join previously announced newcomers Mackenzie Alexander Astin ("Rosewood"), Morgan Spector ("Boardwalk Empire") and Dylan Baker ("The Good Life"). The political drama has also promoted three of its cast members — Maury Sterling, Jake Weber and Linus Roache — to series regulars ahead of the season 7 premiere.

There is still no word on when "Homeland" will return for its latest installment, though it will likely premiere during the first quarter of 2018. Season 6 wrapped up with Peter's (Rupert Friend) tragic demise as Carrie (Claire Danes) received an offer from President Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) offering ) to be her senior adviser.

Back in April, showrunner Alex Gansa revealed that he hopes to tell one story in the next two seasons. "We really hope that this year's finale sets up the final progression of this series. That is, seasons 7 and 8, which we hope to tell as one story, and the finale of this season really hopefully tease that up," he told Deadline.

Gansa added, "Shocked is always a good emotion to evoke as well, so I guess I would hope they would be shocked as well."

The seventh season of "Homeland" is expected to premiere next year on Showtime.
