House of Cards Season 2 Release Date: Episode 1 Premiere in Early 2014, Netflix Series Changing Future of TV Says Kevin Spacey (VIDEO)

House of Cards Season 2 is quickly becoming one of the most eagerly anticipated shows following the Netflix series gaining a massive 14 Emmy Award nominations last month. At the moment, Season 2 is mid-way through filming, and although it has not been given an official release date for its premiere yet, it should arrive early in 2014.

The Netflix hit show has receiving widespread critical acclaim since its release in February, and the Emmy nominations have drawn thousands more to see what all the fuss is about. Kevin Spacey has even said that the show's format on Netflix could indicate a change for the future of TV, with more online-only shows now being made and gaining popularity among viewers.

Even House Majority Whip, Kevin McCarthy, recently spoke about the series, explaining that he had received a call from Kevin Spacey, who plays the Democratic majority whip on the show.

McCarthy was laying out the Republican agenda on tax reform, energy policy and changes to regulatory agencies last week in Newport Beach. During the event he joked about a call he received from Kevin Spacey, who was doing research for the Netflix show.

McCarthy said, "I'll say about Spacey, I actually liked him - philosophically we're different - but do you know why? I believe if Spacey made 100 bucks a week acting he'd still act."

He added, "He does what he believes in. He does what he likes. He portrays this person with all the wrong things you hear about Washington. He literally murders one member. If I could murder one member, I'd never have to worry about another vote."

Spacey himself received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his role as Francis Underwood in the popular Netflix drama.

The nominations marked the first time that an original online-only web series on the Netflix 'network' had made such an impact at the Emmys.

Spacey has predicted that this could indicate a change for the future of TV.

Spacey told EW: "It's a very exciting time for the industry. Since we debuted, a lot of other organizations and streaming companies have announced that they're doing original content. The more shows that are produced, the more writers are hired, producers are hired, actors are hired, directors are hired, it means the more people will get employed. It's better for the economy. It's a fantastic thing."

Regarding how House of Cards Season 2 is going, Spacey said: "If people enjoyed the first season, I hope that they'll enjoy the second season even more. I can tell you I've been having an even better time and having even more fun with it."

House of Cards Season 2 will have a premiere release date early in 2014, with Netflix to announce the precise date in the coming months.
