HTC Ocean Release Date, Specs Rumors: Leak Hints at Edge Sense Feature for Upcoming Smartphone
HTC was rumored to be releasing a new range of smartphones dubbed "Ocean," but these devices were seemingly forgotten when the Taiwanese electronics company introduced the U Ultra and U Play earlier this year. Now, a new leak suggests that a device codenamed Ocean or Ocean Note is indeed in the works and it will come with an innovative feature called Edge Sense.
Last September, HTC product designer Danelle Vermeulen posted a concept video of the HTC Ocean. According to Phone Arena, the device had no physical buttons but had a touch-sensitive frame that could be used to control the smartphone's settings. For example, the Google voice assistant could be activated by swiping the right edge of the device. The same gesture could also be used to control the volume while inside the Music app.
In the video, this specific feature was called Sense Touch. Now, there is reason to believe that it has been renamed as Edge Sense, based on the leak published by Mobile01.
While the leak does not really reveal specific details, popular leakster Evan Blass previously released a video that demonstrates how this feature will function. It seems that pressing the side of the smartphone will reveal a list of actions which the user can choose from like check their messages or take a selfie.
In terms of technical specifications, the HTC Ocean is rumored to feature a 5.5-inch display. It is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with either 4 GB or 6 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and 64 GB of built-in storage. There is also support for virtual reality (VR), possibly for Google's Daydream platform, as well as a USB Type-C port.
Furthermore, it is also expected to come with HTC's Sense Companion artificial intelligence (AI) voice assistant, which was first introduced in the U Ultra and U Play smartphones.
The HTC Ocean is rumored to arrive in late April. However, it is important to note that HTC has not officially confirmed the Ocean smartphone so information regarding the device's features and release date should be taken with a grain of salt.
