Huawei Watch 2 Release Date, Specs News: Android Wear 2.0 Smartwatches Unveiled at MWC 2017, to Arrive in April

The highly anticipated Huawei Watch 2 was finally introduced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Following the footsteps of the popular Huawei Watch, the Chinese electronics company has upped the ante by providing consumers two variants of the second-generation wearable device: the Watch 2 and the Watch 2 Classic.

The Huawei Watch 2 features a sportier design while the Huawei Watch 2 Classic showcases a more traditional watch face design.

Both smartwatches feature a 1.2-inch circular active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels and pixel density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi). They are powered by the Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor with 768 MB of random-access memory (RAM) and 4 GB of built-in storage.

The second-generation smartwatches also come with built-in global positioning system (GPS), a heart rate sensor and IP68 certification for water resistance.

Furthermore, they are preinstalled with Android Wear 2.0, the latest version of Google's operating system (OS) for wearable devices. This allows the new smartwatches to gain access to the new Google Assistant, support standalone apps and have customizable watch faces. There are also improvements in the overall interface of the OS. With near-field communication (NFC), users will be able to transact via Android Pay.

In terms of design, the Huawei Watch 2 comes with silicone straps while the Watch 2 Classic features a stainless-steel build and leather straps.

Notably, only the Huawei Watch 2 is equipped with 4G LTE connectivity, so this particular variant will be able to function without having to be tethered to a smartphone. Meanwhile, the Watch 2 Classic comes with Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

Due to this difference, the Huawei Watch 2 Classic can last up to three days of normal use while the sportier variant will only have two days of battery life.

The Huawei Watch 2, available in Dynamic Orange, Carbon Black, Concrete Grey, and the Huawei Watch 2 Classic, available in Titanium Grey, will arrive in North America this April. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.
