'Interstellar' Trailer Video Released: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway Travel Across the Galaxy to Save Mankind (WATCH)
The "Interstellar" trailer video was released Friday, and the first official look at Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller has fans excited. The movie was written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan, and new plot details have finally been revealed.
The "Interstellar" official trailer video starts off with Matthew McConaughey's Coop, a pilot and engineer-turned-farmer. The family-oriented father must leave Earth on a space mission to find hope, as the world is doomed.
"The world doesn't need any more engineers. We didn't run out of planes and television sets— we ran out of food," one character says.
"We must confront the reality that nothing in our solar system can help us," Michael Caine, who plays a professor, explains. "We're not meant to save to world, we're meant to leave it."
So Coop embarks on a journey across the galaxy, assuring his daughter Murphy that he will return. Scientists have located a wormhole that will allow Coop, Anne Hathaway's astronaut character and others to jump across space and time to find the answer to Earth's dilemma.
The "Interstellar" project has garnered high interest since the teaser trailer earlier this year. Christopher Nolan's first full film in some time has attracted major A-list talent like McConaughey, Hathaway, Caine, Jessica Chastain, Topher Grace, John Lithgow and even Matt Damon has a small role. Mackenzie Foy plays Coop's daughter Murphy.
The movie is already gaining comparisons to "Gravity," "2001: A Space Odyssey" and other great sci-fi films.
