iPhone 8 Plus Cracks While Charging

Apple is currently investigating reports of their new iPhone 8 Plus bursting open while charging.

Reports from the Taiwanese media suggest that a local owner of the iPhone 8 Plus handset saw the device split open while it was being charged using its official cable and power adapter.

Photos of the smartphone show the handset cracked open along the side, with its screen bulging forward.

According to reports, the unit had only been purchased days before the incident happened. In particular, the user was able to use the iPhone 8 Plus for only five days.

Another iPhone 8 Plus user from Japan claimed that the device's screen was partially detached when it was delivered. Snaps of the handset corroborate the consumer's story.

According to The Independent, the Cupertino-based tech giant has confirmed that they are looking to the recent reports. Moreover, they seem to believe that the problem is due to the swelling of the device's battery. They, however, declined to comment further on the latest incidents.

More importantly, Apple is convinced that the recent slate of technical issues does not pose a threat to consumers' safety.

As of now, it remains unclear if the issues are isolated cases or if there is a wider problem in terms of the iPhone 8 Plus' manufacturing.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus at their fall event on Sept. 22, along with the 10th-anniversary special, the iPhone X. The units look much like their preceding installment, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but they feature improved cameras and battery functions as well as wireless charging.

The iPhone 8 Plus is currently available for purchase. Apple is offering the device in two configurations, a 64 GB which costs $799 and a 256 GB which is priced at $949.
