iPhone 9 Rumors: Apple's Next Smartphone to Use a Full-Active LCD Screen
While the highly anticipated iPhone X has yet to hit the store shelves, there are now rumors claiming that Apple may revert to LCD screen for its next iPhone, the iPhone 9.
OLED screens are said to be the best screens for smartphones as they provide vibrant colors, deep blacks, and impressive contrast. While the recently released iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus still sport an LCD screen, Apple has made use of the OLED screen for its most expensive and yet to be released iPhone, the iPhone X.
According to recent rumors, Apple may once again use an LCD screen for its iPhone 9 next year as unconfirmed reports claim that the Cupertino-based company has expressed interest in purchasing LCD displays from a Japanese manufacturer, Japan Display. Nonetheless, it is said that the said LCD screens will be no ordinary ones as, allegedly, they would be the advanced versions of LCD screens, dubbed as Full Active.

Sources claim that Full-Active LCD screens will make it easy for smartphone manufacturers to make edge-to-edge smartphones even more compact. As compared to OLED screens, Full Active LCD screens are only 0.5mm thick, or half the thickness of OLED screens.
Hence, it is now suspected that Apple's decision to go for the use of Full-Active-LCD screens has something to do with its desire to come up with an almost bezel-less screen, similar to Samsung's Galaxy S8. However, there are also those who believe that Apple may use the Full-Active LCD screens for its budget-tier iPhones.
While it remains unconfirmed whether the iPhone 9 will, indeed, adopt the so-called Full-Active LCD displays, rumors claim that they would make up 70 percent of Apple's display orders for its next line of iPhones next year. As it is said that the Full-Active LCD screens can provide the advantages of an OLED panel at a much lower price, it won't really be a surprise if Apple goes for it in its future iPhones, including the iPhone 9.
