J.K. Simmons Open to Reprising Role as J. Jonah Jameson in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming 2'
Fans never caught a glimpse of J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," but Simmons is not ruling out the possibility of making it to the sequel. Since Jameson is a Marvel character, Simmons has instead been making recent rounds for his involvement in DC's "Justice League," where he is set to play Commissioner Gordon.
Although Simmons' role in the upcoming DC-Warner film allegedly suggests that he is finally moving from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), the actor has revealed in a recent interview that he's still open to reprising his role as Jameson in the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel.
Simmons said that there has been no indication yet that Marvel would like him to return as Jameson, but if the opportunity arises, he'd be glad to return to the MCU.
"I never say never. I mean, you know, obviously I had an amazing time with Sam Raimi on those movies, and Tobey and everybody. That was a great, great time, and huge for my career and my life, and just pure fun. If there were an opportunity to revisit that... I don't know, though... how old is Spider-Man going to be if J. Jonah Jameson is this old?" the actor shared.
Simmons was introduced in the MCU in the first "Spider-Man" film and has since played the role of Jameson in all the three films in the franchise. Since his work as the bombastic man Jameson was one of the things that fans loved about Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" film trilogy, there has been a huge demand to see him show up again in future MCU films, particularly in the "Spider-Man: Homecoming" sequel.
While there is no news yet as to whether Simmons will be back as Jameson in the MCU or not, fans can still catch him in DC's "Justice League," which will hit theaters on Nov. 15. Meanwhile, "Spider-Man: Homecoming 2" is slated for release on July 5, 2019.
