James Bond Producer Says Daniel Craig Will Still Star in Fifth Movie
James Bond producer Michael G. Wilson is confident that Daniel Craig will star in the fifth movie, despite the actor's negativity on the matter.
During the promotion for the fourth Bond film "Spectre," Daniel Craig painted a bleak picture of his future in the franchise, but producers seem to think otherwise. On Friday, Wilson said they are almost sure that Craig will be with them for three more years, according to a Sunday Mirror report cited by the Daily Mail.
Craig has already reportedly agreed to star in the fifth James Bond film, and all they need to secure the deal is a signed contract. An insider also told the publication that the actor has been very successful in the spy-action franchise that fans are still clamoring for him. Thus, directors would have to do one more movie with him before he is replaced, the report relays.
News about Craig's participation in the fifth Bond movie surfaced days after the cast of "Spectre" appeared in New York to promote the movie. The fourth 007 installment earned $.27 million (£41.3million) when it premiered in the United Kingdom last month. The previous movie, "Skyfall," earned $30.3 million (£20.1 million) when it opened in 2012.
Still, Craig has been consistently negative about his role in the next Bond film. In an interview with Time Out, he said he'd choose slashing his wrist with a shard of glass over doing another James Bond role, the Independent reports.
However, Craig later said that he will continue with the role for as long as he could. The 47-year-old star already sustained a knee injury from filming "Spectre."
Like Wilson, producer Barbara Broccoli is positive that Craig will come back for a fifth installment. She said she understood that Craig is still tired from the eight-month shoot.
"I think we all feel at the end of a movie that the thought of doing another one right away is always a little bit too much to contemplate. It's like childbirth," the Mail quotes Broccoli's statement. "You don't ask a woman who's just given birth, 'Oh when are you going to do it again?"'
"Spectre" is still showing in cinemas as of now.
