James Woods Got Into Twitter War With 'Call Me By Your Name' Star Armie Hammer, Actress Amber Tamblyn
James Woods just got into a Twitter war with fellow actors Armie Hammer and Amber Tamblyn after he took a shot at the former's upcoming film, "Call Me By Your Name."
"Call Me By Your Name" had received universal acclaim from film critics during its premiere at Sundance Festival earlier this year, but James Woods doesn't seem to agree with the critics as he nonchalantly took a jab at the film via Twitter on Monday. As expected, the film's star, Armie Hammer, didn't take Woods' opinion lightly.
"As they quietly chip away the last barriers of decency. #NAMBLA," Woods tweeted on Monday. NAMBLA stands for North American Man/Boy Love Association, a group whose movement centers on the decriminalization of adult male relationships with underage boys.
In "Call Me By Your Name" Hammer plays the role of a 24-year-old graduate student who subsequently has a romantic and sexual relationship with the 17-year-old son, played by Timothee Chalamet, of his professor, whom he happens to be staying with for six months. Seeing through the hypocrisy, Hammer quickly replied to Woods specifically mentioning the time the actor dated someone exceedingly younger than his own age.
"Didn't you date a 19 year old when you were 60.......?," Hammer says in a tweet.
Joining in on the conversation, actress Amber Tamblyn went for Hammer's side as she shared the time Woods tried to pick her up when she was a minor.
"James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once. He wanted to take us to Vegas. 'I'm 16' I said. 'Even better' he said," Tamblyn responded in support to Hammer.
Woods was quick to refute both the actors' statements, calling the film's portrayal of adult underage romance illegal and Tamblyn's accusation a lie after he was asked by a concerned individual how a romance between a 24-year-old and a 17-year-old different from what he was being accused of.
