'John Wick 3' News, Release Date: Production May Start in Spring 2018
"John Wick 3" is slated for a May 2019 release, and new reports suggest that filming for the next chapter in the popular action franchise will begin sometime in spring next year. Previously, some reports claimed that Lionsgate had decided to fast-track the production of the film, but it looks like that's not really the case.
Soon after the release of the successful "John Wick 2," Lionsgate confirmed that there would be a third "John Wick" film, which would be released on May 17, 2019. Recently, there have been rumors that production for the third chapter will start this fall, but that looks unlikely since 2017 is already closing in less than a couple of months. In fact, since the film was announced, there hasn't been any significant movement when it comes to its production.
There are speculations that given its May 2019 release date, filming for the third film will most likely begin around spring of 2018. According to reports, a fall 2017 kickoff date for the filming is not likely due to several reasons, primarily because co-director David Leitch still trying to finish his post in "Deadpool 2," which is set for release in June next year. Since Leitch plays a huge role in "John Wick," filming for the upcoming film might not begin until the second half of 2018.
As for its plot, rumor has it that "John Wick 3" will focus on the titular John Wick (Keanu Reeves) dealing with some new troubles, as previously teased at this year's New York Comic-Con. During the event, Reeves also confirmed that Chad Stahelski, who helmed the first two films with Leitch, would return to co-direct the third film, along with screenwriter Derek Kolstad.
The combined global earnings of the first two films was $260 million, making "John Wick" one of the most successful action franchises in modern cinema. It centers on John Wick, a retired hitman who seeks vengeance for the murder of his puppy and his wife.
