Depp and Aerosmith seem to have a rapport going, as Depp also joined the band on stage earlier this year at the Hollywood Bowl – again to the delight of the band's fans.

Depp has been performing with some of the world's biggest rock stars recently. Just a few days prior to coming on stage with Aerosmith he appeared with Alice Cooper during one of his performances. Last month he also came out to jam at the Tom Petty tribute festival in Los Angeles.

Over the summer, the Hollywood actor attended the MTV Movie Awards 2012 where he took the stage alongside The Black Keys. He also earned the MTV Generation Award.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry described Depp as a "gutsy actor, gutsy musician, and gutsy artist with passion" before they presented the actor with the award.

"Johnny Depp is the rock star in the world of movies," added Tyler during the event.

Depp recently landed a new role in the film "Transcendence." Depp will portray Alcon in the upcoming sci-fi thriller.

"I am thrilled and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny," said director Wally Pfister. "He is creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative."

The film will be the directorial debut for Pfister, who served as cinematographer for "Inception."

Depp is also scheduled to appear in next year's "Lone Ranger" as Tonto.
