Joran van der Sloot Getting Married Behind Bars? Killer Seeks Shorter Sentence
Joran van der Sloot, who is currently serving time after admitting to killing his girlfriend, is reportedly engaged to be married. Van der Sloot has also asked the Peruvian court to overturn his sentence and release him before his time is over in 2038.
Van der Sloot is engaged to be married, report several Peruvian news agencies, to an unknown woman. He plans to be married behind bars, given that his sentence will keep him in prison for another 26 years. Van der Sloot has been described as a lady's man, with rumors continually surfacing about his romantic affairs.
Last year a story broke that said van der Sloot had fathered a child while imprisoned. The woman at the center of that story later denied the rumor on Peruvian television, but that has not stopped the public's fascination with the young killer.

He is also attempting to shorten his initial sentence of 28 years for the murder of Stephany Flores. Her body was found in van der Sloot's hotel room five years to the day after the death of American Natalee Holloway. Van der Sloot has been believed to be responsible for Holloway's disappearance in 2005.
Maximo Altez, van der Sloot's attorney, has asked the Peruvian court to annul his client's sentence.
"If we are allowed to proceed, we will request a revision of the sentence, where Joran will say he was ill-advised by his previous attorney who had promised him 15 years in exchange for a guilty plea," Altez told The Daily Beast in a phone interview.
The United States previously requested that van der Sloot be extradited to the U.S. after he serves his sentence. Authorities plan to charge him with extortion after he promised Holloway's mother information about her daughter in exchange for money. However, van der Sloot's attorney has fought the extradition, saying he believes the U.S. only wants to charge his client with the disappearance of Holloway.
