Jose Aldo News: Coach Responds To Fighter's Critics, Mother Wants Son To Learn From Loss
The head coach and the mother of former undisputed UFC champion José Aldo have spoken up about the Brazilian fighter's most recent loss to new champion Conor McGregor.
The 29-year old fighter of the famed Team Nova União in Brazil tasted his first defeat in ten years on Saturday night at UFC 194. Within just 13 seconds of the fight, "The Notorious" knocked Aldo out with a clean straight left cross, ending "Scarface's" six-year reign as the UFC 145-pound champion.
Apparently, Aldo received a lot of backlash and hatred from fans after the fight. Predominantly, most comments were anchored on the fact that McGregor was able to back up his predictions, once again. In a report by MMA Fighting, Aldo's coach Andre Pederneiras released a lengthy statement regarding his fighter's loss.
According to him, McGregor's taunting all throughout the promotion process did not get into Aldo's head, and noted that just like any mortal being, José Aldo is merely human.
"My message to critics is this: get up from the chair, get out from the computer, drop the phone, and do better," an excerpt of the statement reads. "We need more people like Aldo and less critics from the couch."
Meanwhile, Aldo's own mother also offered a message to his son. Rocilene Souza was watching her son for the first time on Saturday night and according to her, she did not even see the entire moment, as it happened too quickly. Souza, however, expressed her undying support for her son.
She adds that part of being a champion is the moments of defeat, and that she hopes that José would not be "too sad" from the loss.
"That's the way it is," Souza said in a report by Bloody Elbow. "It's part of being a champion and of being a fighter. You fight, and when you fight, you win or you lose."
