Juan Manuel Marquez News: 'El Dinamita' Wants Rehydration Clause For Potential Cotto Fight
As a potential fight between boxing veterans Juan Manuel Marquez and Miguel Cotto is being planned, "El Dinamita" has already laid out one crucial request in terms of negotiations.
Now 42 years of age, Marquez has fought a total of 64 professional boxing fights (56-7-1, with 40 wins by knockout) in a career that began in 1993. He last saw action in May 2014, where he won a unanimous decision verdict against former WBO junior welterweight champion Mike "Mile High" Alvarado.
Given his age and the wear and tear that his body has gone through over his 23-year professional career, Marquez has bargained for something that would rightfully be in his favor. In a report by Elisinio Castillo for Boxingscene, the Mexican boxing legend is asking for a rehydration clause in his potential fight against Cotto.

According to Marquez, his reason for asking for such a clause was to help him get through making weight, which he says has been more difficult for him at his age.
"We could make 147 pounds when we step on the scale before the fight, but we would have to cap the [weight for] next day, put a cap on it because the next day he can gain 20 pounds, and that is a factor in his favor that would play against me," Marquez said, according to the Boxingscene report.
Marquez adds that while the match-up against Cotto does interest him greatly, he is still made to think twice, mainly because of a nagging injury he has been dealing with. In December 2014, Marquez was contemplating retirement after a knee injury has kept him in the sidelines and unsure about a return.
He was slated for a comeback in 2015, but the said condition has derailed it from happening.
Marquez' priorities are now centered on being a full-time family man, and the decision would greatly be pinned on the requests of his loved ones.
"I want to see what my children, my wife, people close to me and my friends also think," he adds.
