Judge Judy's Son, Adam Levy, Sues Sheriff for $5M in Relation to Rape Case (VIDEO)

Judge Judy's son, Adam Levy, is suing a local sheriff for $5 million it was announced on Wednesday, after Levy accused the sheriff of "maliciously attempted to destroy" his reputation.

Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy has said county Sheriff Donald Smith is "out of control" after the sheriff accused Levy of interfering in a child rape case.

Levy insisted that Smith did "not care about the truth," and is claiming the sheriff had defamed him.

In response, Smith has adamantly denied defaming Levy, and has accused Judge Judy's son of producing the lawsuit to damage his re-election campaign. Smith claimed that the timing of the lawsuit proved that it was "blatantly political."

Levy has filed legal documents to proceed with the lawsuit in county court in suburban New York, naming Smith as an individual, and not as a county employee. That would mean that taxpayers would not be liable for payments in the case.

The incident has been sparked by a controversial child rape case against Levy's former personal trainer, Alexandru Hossu.

Hossu was described by Levy as a "close personal friend" and a friend of the family who frequently visited his home through 2011 and 2012.

However, in March, Levy recused himself from the rape case after he learned Hossu was under investigation.

Those actions did not satisfy Smith, however, who alleged Levy had "ongoing and improper involvement" in the case and allegedly was hoping to influence its result.

Smith said in March: "Mr. Levy's comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr. Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr. Levy's relationship with him would never have been brought to the light of public scrutiny."

Hossu, 35, has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl, but has pleaded not guilty.

Smith is running for re-election in November, which he believes in the motivation for levy to commence the suit, as a revenge act that is "blatantly political and intended to try to influence the outcome of an election."
