'Jurassic World 2' Rumors: Juan Antonio Bayona Up for Sequel?
With the massive fanbase that "Jurassic World" acquired, it didn't surprise fans when the sequel was confirmed last year. However, there are very few details out in the open for fans to chew on, except for the possibility that director Juan Antonio Bayona will direct the upcoming film.
According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures confirmed earlier that the director has left the set of "World War Z 2," meaning he can now be acquired by other movies and productions as another load has been taken off his shoulders.
It was reported last year that Bayona had been tapped to direct the sequel of "Jurassic World" but he was busy at the time with other projects including the Brad Pitt movie and "A Monster Calls," which recently wrapped up filming.
Now that he has more time and space on his table, it is expected that he will give the dinosaur film a big "Yes." Compared to Pitt's zombie movie, "Jurassic World" has a more relaxed timeline, which could even give Bayona some time to take on other smaller duties.
Meanwhile, there have been lots of rumors about the sequel's plot. In December, rumors started emerging about the movie picking up on its predecessor, wherein Dr. Henry Wu (B.D. Wong) took some dinosaur embryos and sneaked into Costa Rica.
Fans speculate that the doctor will use technological tools to come up with a new breed of dinosaurs. Also, since he collected not just one embryo in the previous movie, it is expected that the sequel will feature more dinosaurs for the world to see.
Another theory that has been hot online is that of Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) taking the place of Owen (Chris Pratt) as the sequel's protagonist. This may mean that Owen will turn his back on the good and will be lost in the world of darkness. It is further speculated that the two will part ways in the upcoming installment — a storyline that will pave the way for a new generation that will be featured in a third movie.
"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to release on July 22, 2018.
