'Justice League' movie cast news: Commissioner Gordon to be played by JK Simmons?

A new addition has been made to the cast of the "Justice League" movie. Jonathan Kimble "JK" Simmons will play Gotham City's Commissioner James Gordon, the last major role to be cast before production begins. Simmons, who is not new to the superhero movie realm, has starred in the "Spider-Man" movies as the publisher J. Jonah Jameson. He was in the 2015 film "Whiplash" for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Simmons also gave his voice to a character in the hit release "Zootopia."

Simmons will be the fifth actor to play the big screen role of Commissioner of Gotham City. The role was played by Lyle Talbot on the serial "Batman and Robin." In 1966, Neil Hamilton became Commissioner Gordon in "Batman: The Movie." On the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher series, Pat Hingle took on the role. The latest rendition of the character was in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight," which was taken on by Gary Oldman.

Simmons will work side by side with other actors as Ben Affleck who is playing Batman; Henry Cavill, Superman; Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman; Ray Fisher, Cyborg; Jason Momoa, Aquaman; and Ezra Miller, the Flash. This slew of heroes will put their powers together to end a threat which each one could not defeat singlehandedly.

Zack Snyder will return as director of the movie, as well as one of the producers, with Chris Terrio writing the screenplay. Other producers for the film are Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder.

The Warner Brothers film, "Justice League," will be shown in two parts. "Justice League: Part One," which will be out in cinemas by Nov. 17, 2017, will start shooting by April. "Justice League: Part Two" is expected to release by June 14, 2019.

Besides cast news and premiere and filming dates, little else has been announced about the upcoming "Justice League: Part One" movie. Not one little thing is known about the plot, although, with filming about to commence next month, some news is bound to come out.
